HAVING AWFUL TIME FINDING REPLACEMENT 60 GALLON FUEL TANK FOR 1977 HOLIDAY RAMBLER-27 FT. W FORD E-350 FRAME. 460 ENGINE.FOUND GOOD WEB SITE FOR SENDING UNIT. RV STORE AND FORD JUST LOOK AT YOU FUNNY WHEN YOU SAY 1977. TANK IS 33 X 29 X 14 HEAVY METAL. SENDING UNIT LOOKS TO HAVE BEEN MODIFIED. ENGINE HAS MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP, BUT FOUND ELECTRIC PUMP BEHIND DUALLY WHEN REPLACING RUBBER LINES. I AM RESTORING 1981 HONDA INTERSTATE GOLDWING AND THERE ARE 4 OR 5 WEBSITES THAT HAVE BEEN INVALUABLE TO ME FOR ADVICE. WOULD LOVE TO REPLACE TANK WITHOUT SPENDING $ 1000. CAN SAVE OLD TANK IF I CAN SEAL LEAK AT PREVIOUSLY WELDED SUPPORT BRKT AND RENEW SENDING UNIT. ANY LEADS OR SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS

I would suggest using a later tank from the 90's ,Ford had 2 that were factory tanks----would have to get my book out to be sure ,I think they were around 30 and 40 gal ,mine is a 460/E-350 with a 40. Look at some other E-350's and see if a factory tank will fit---most E-350 conversions only modified the length of the frame and drive shafts( and carrier bearing) and of course all lines and cables. Ford published a set of specs for doing this /where to cut the frame and max extensions ,etc.

only found at 38 gallon tank so far. i guess im weighing range of travel with smaller tank.i think original tank went on left side of frame ahead of dually's. i have a built in propane tank there. i have plenty of room behind axle, so that might be best option. next quest will probably be salvage yards and my tape measure. also does your rig use mechical fuel pump or is sending unit electric. mine is old and i put new mech fuel pump on and wondering if it needs help pulling fuel from tank 24 feet away. thanks for reply.

If not -a after market modified tank set aft of axle( original----side to side orientation)forgot where documents were on google-for the Ford specs for frame modification for RV's-------try a google search for Ford frame Rv specs and spend a few minutes or hours searching related words------spec the fuel intake psi and work a system that will provide from there------it may seem hard at first -but is rather simple -----you can even run a poly fuel cell from any hotrod or drag race supplier, check the Summit racing web catalog for pumps ,tanks etc.

working on fab shop to get either alumn. or steel tank built to specks. still will have issues with sending unit and fuel pressure. talked to manufacturer in oregon the other day and they said they make their own tanks with blank frames, monico does not use ford anymore, guy in parts said he's never seen a 1977 holiday rambler. ha! will try your suggestions and see what pops up, thanks.

Sorry it took awhile to get back to you--work-work, and a round of winter cold and flu----mine is in tank stock Ford---sending unit ruined by high sulfur fuel a few yrs ago---some day will replace it. If your tank is mounted -say -mid frame height --I don't see a problem with a stock fuel pump getting you the pressure for carb-body fuel injection-------a diesel configuration might be a different story. There are many aftermarket electric pumps out there -and adjustable fuel line regulators ---so you can dial in the pressure you need for the carb-body injectors

found web site for ford truck enthusiasts. people having problem with initial start up after unit setting. truck ran fine after warming up, they had great suggestion-they estimated diaphram in manual pump could be damaged by pressure from electric running all time. they suggested using push button switch at dash to get initial pressure up until truck is running and then pump would be idle. they suppose that fuel is running back into tank. will check into your regulator suggestion to see what effect it has on pump. my other problem is to find 40 gallon tank, preferrably without pump in sending unit. still waiting for fab shop to get back with me about making new tank and figuring out what to do about old sending unit. to cold to work, so i have time to investigate. thanks for reply. also if anyone knows what year ford started putting pump in tank, that might be helpful. thanks
