Find work online
I'm a writer and I make $500 to $1,200 a month working the same 3-5 hours a day or 20 hours a MONTH that work kampers do. I set my own schedule, get paid monthly, (or daily or weekly if I write for Elance.com) write as much or as little as I like and can pay for my camping ANYWHERE, without having to rely on finding a work kamp location where I want to go. You can too, and without paying anything for the information. You don't even have to be a fantastic writer.
To begin with, check out Squidoo.com. It's a site where you simply write about what you like or know about anything! Free to join, free to post and free to write. You get paid based on the number of "lenses" or pages you post. It takes about 6 months to build up to a good income, but the more you write, the more you make.
Having a blog and doing "affiliate marketing," meaning posting stuff other people sell on your website can make you money too. You don't have to sell anything. Just post it on your blog. For instance, if you blog about boats and you post a heater or other gear that people would buy anyway on your blog, when they click on it and buy it from the source, you get a percentage of the sale without doing anything else. It's automated.
Lots of people do online consulting too. Skype, for instance, is a FREE internet phone application. You download it free and can call anyone anywhere in the world free if they have Skype (free) too. Or you can pay $3.95 to $7.95 a month for a landline calling privelege. But - they have a function where they allow you to accept calls and they bill the calling party for the time spent on the call. For instance, if you offer computer troubleshooting advice and someone calls you, they must enter their credit card number to connect, then Skype charges them whatever rate you set, like $1 or 50 cents a minute....as long as you're connected. If you do business, repair, troubleshooting, counseling etc. you can charge by phone and get paid without worry.
There are lots of ways to make money online and avoid scams. There are a lot of legitimate websites and jobs - like Virtual Assistants - where you do administrative work for someone in another state, and work from your home or RV. You're welcome Pat. I just hate to see people work so hard work kamping for $4, 5, 6 or even $8 an hour when they can make more than that (twice or more) online and just pay for camping. If you work online you can come and go and stay at whatever campground you want, when you want. You don't have to scrub bathrooms (which I have done as a workkamper) or be tied to the campground's schedule, or put up with bad owners/bosses. You are your own boss. You work about the same hours, but you set the schedule. If your wife can write while you drive, or vice-versa, you make good use of time on the road.

Writing
eBay
Etsey (arts and crafts site where you sell your arts and crafts)
Virtual Assistant (you do administrative work for someone from your "home")
Article marketing
Graphic artist
Stock photographer
Affiliate marketing
Just a few ways....there's also Mystery Shopper - which is great - you get paid to eat, shop and travel, no skills required.
Even if you sign up with a temp agency you make more money than work camping and you get to meet locals and learn more about the area than if you work kamp.
Work Kamping is great for some folks who find the perfect workkamping job. But for others who want to travel and don't think they can afford to, online employment is an option.

Wow, I never knew that there were so many ways to make money to support my camping "addiction". I definately qualify for theat Myster Shopper; I can eat, I can shop, I can travel and I have no skills! Yahoo!! I'm in!! :)

:-D You're the perfect Mystery Shopper! I was paid $40 to walk into a store and give an employee a mini-tv for being employee of the month, and $50 to talk to a car salesman about buying a new car, and have eaten at restaurants I could never afford, and had the company pay for the meal and another $20 for answering 10 questions after the meal. Mystery Shopping is GREAT! But DON'T PAY anyone to become a shopper. The legitimate companies pay YOU, and you can shop anywhere in the US. GREAT job!
